Year three of the four-year series renewal between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Panthers, which saw the teams split the first two games (each team won their home contest), started out slowly. A rainy affair saw both teams make mistakes, commit turnovers, and, miss kicks, the game looked to be a close contest, at least in the first half.
That all changed in the second. Leading 14-6, Penn State took a 21-6 lead on a 8-play, 40-yard drive, then followed it up by forcing a safety on the Panthers. A punt return for a touchdown later, and the Nittany Lions had built enough of a cushion to run away with it.
