I long for the days of the tie.
Alright, maybe I shouldn’t go that far, but having been a goaltender for much of my life, the idea of ending a game with no winner is far superior to facing seemingly endless odd-man rushes in 3-on-3 or a player like Pavel Datsyuk, who’s really more of a magician, in a 1-on-1 setting.
Alas, I don’t make the rules, and so the NHL has introduced millions of fans worldwide to 3-on-3 overtime.
The idea is simple enough to understand. Each side can send out any combination of three players during a five-minute extra frame.
