EUGENE, ORE.

Michael Shuey’s All-America performance was the Penn State highlight of Day 1 at the NCAA Track & Field Championships, as he set a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 250 feet, 9 inches.

After finishing third with the heave — the top-9 make it to the finals — Shuey will now advance in hopes for a gold, but he won’t be the only Nittany Lion searching for a medal. His training partner, Ryan Kerr, also had a big day in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 232-0, which ranks seventh in school history and was good enough for ninth on Wednesday.
