James Franklin likely to have integral role in Penn State's legal battle with Bob Shoop

WILLIAMSPORT -- James Franklin and Bob Shoop could start the 2018 football season in court, if a deal isn't struck in Penn State's $891,856 breach of contract lawsuit against Shoop.

If the case makes it to trial, Franklin will likely play an integral part, according to court documents filed Thursday in U.S. Middle District Court.

Penn State and Shoop both listed Franklin among the parties it will involve in their cases. The filing also projected an August 2018 trial date.

Penn State claims Shoop breached his contract when he resigned Jan. 10, 2016, to take a similar position at the University of Tennessee.
