How Penn State men’s basketball used a defensive stand down the stretch to top Maryland

Penn State’s 74-70 win over Maryland was a typical Big Ten game in early February.

With both teams probably feeling a little tired in the back half of the conference schedule, there was much more offense than defense — until the Nittany Lions dug in defensively in the defining moments of the second half.

Both the Nittany Lions and Terrapins shot over 50 percent from the field on Wednesday night, but it was the Nittany Lions’ defensive effort down the stretch that ultimately gave them the win.

“Tonight we locked down when we had to,” Lamar Stevens said postgame.
