One of the darker games in the Bill O'Brien era came in Charlottesville, Va., in September 2012.
The Lions traveled to Virginia to kick off a home-and-home with the Cavaliers that year, and the story is well known: Penn State struggled on special teams and failed far too often to punch the ball into the end zone en route to a 17-16 loss that featured four Sam Ficken missed field goals and a blocked extra point as the difference.
Ficken would go on to redeem himself, (and in related news, just received a minicamp shot with the New Orleans Saints) but Penn State never had the same chance to wipe out that loss, as Virginia cancelled its end of the deal, a 2013 trip to Beaver Stadium, in favor of playing Oregon.
