Auburn football: Coaching insomnia leads Steele to extra Mercer prep

AUBURN — Kevin Steele knew at some level he wouldn’t be sleeping much Saturday night or Sunday morning and was prepared for his own coaching insomnia.

The Auburn defensive coordinator said Sunday that he couldn’t settle himself down for the normal length of rest while his mind was still on his team’s 14-6 loss at Clemson. After 37 years of coaching at the college and professional level, Steele has figured out how to pass the time when he can’t sleep — he watches film.

“When you can’t sleep and you coach, you watch tape so I watched tape,” he said.
