Week 4 was certainly not kind to a number of ranked teams:
- Middle Tennessee 45, No. 25 Miami 31
Those were the losses. There were also plenty of scares this week, with plenty of teams finding themselves in battles up and down the rankings. Notably, No. 1 Georgia allowed more points to Kent State than they had allowed all season, combined. No. 7 USC needed a late drive to escape Oregon State. No. 15 Oregon needed three scores in the span of five minutes to stave off Washington State.
