Nevada was picked to finish last in the 2024 preseason Mountain West Media poll. The Wolf Pack, in head coach Jeff Choate’s first year, did just that. Nevada went 3-10 and 0-7 in the MWC. Those three wins came against an interesting grouping of teams: at Troy (in a game Devonte Ross had more than 100 yards and a touchdown catch), an easy home victory against FCS Eastern Washington, and, finally, a home shootout triumph over Oregon State.
Even more notable was that Nevada maybe played its best against a pair of College Football Playoff opponents. The Wolf Pack faltered late in their season opener, being outscored 16-0 in the fourth quarter of a loss against SMU.
