The Hawkeyes went 8-5 in 2024 in what has to be considered a disappointing campaign. A loss to Ohio State on the road is to be expected, the Hawkeyes blew a double-digit second half lead against Iowa State and then also lost to two teams — Michigan State and UCLA — that didn’t make a bowl game.
The story for Iowa, as has been tradition the last couple years, was the ineptitude of its offense. Now former offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz was able to get the Hawkeyes to average 27.7 PPG — their highest mark since the fake 2020 season — but this was still a painful offense to watch, especially considering the Iowa defense took a slight step back as far as “eliteness” goes.
