Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg Declares For NFL Draft

Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Christian Hackerberg announced that he will declare for the NFL Draft following PSU's loss to Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl, according to Ben Jones of StateCollege.com.

The 6'4", 228-pounder threw for 2,386 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just five interceptions while leading Penn State to a 7-6 record this year. He threw for 139 yards and an interception in the TaxSlayer Bowl before leaving in the second quarter with an injury.

Hackenberg, who was the top quarterback recruit in the class of 2013, has largely failed to live up to the lofty expectations that were set for him following his freshman season. A starter from the time he stepped foot on campus, Hackenberg passed for 2,955 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions as a freshman, but followed it up with 2,977 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions last year.

Hackenberg was once projected to be a top-five pick in the NFL Draft, but is now expected to go in the second or third round. Many think he could reunite with former Penn State coach Bill O'Brien, who is now the head coach of the Houston Texans.
