Prosecutor: No Evidence Of Any Wrongdoing By James Franklin In Vanderbilt Rape Case

Penn State head football coach James Franklin found himself on the defensive yesterday when an attorney alleged that he had contact with the victim of a sexual assault at Vanderbilt (allegedly perpetrated by his former players) after the assault had taken place.

The attorney, representing one of the players named in the assault case, also alleged that the victim had been specially instructed by Franklin to join a group of hostesses that would "help with recruiting".

Franklin declined to comment on the matter, as did Penn State's administration. Now, a Nashville prosecutor has clarified things in an interview with PennLive.com:

“There’s no indication that Coach Franklin had any improper involvement in this case,” said Davidson County Deputy District Attorney Tom Thurman, who is leading the prosecution. “there was nothing inappropriate about it, as far as I know.”

From a legal standpoint, it appears highly unlikely that Franklin will be involved in the case going forward, but it remains to be seen if the defense attorneys will bring him up again.
