WCC makes ‘responsible decision’, suspends fall sports

Record Staff Writer

University of the Pacific became one of the latest schools to have its athletics affected by the novel coronavirus.

The West Coast Conference Presidents’ Council, in consultation with the conference’s 10 athletic directors and WCC Commissioner Gloria Nevarez, announced Thursday afternoon the postponement of all fall sports competition.

“We empathize with our student-athletes,” Navarez said in a statement. “This is a difficult decision, but it is the responsible decision based on the available information associated with conducting competition in the current environment. WCC programs compete for national titles and we never want to take these opportunities away.
