SJ Delta College’s high-tech track in need of high-priced fix for unsafe surface

STOCKTON — San Joaquin Delta College’s track is in desperate need of repair or replacement.

The Mustangs have not been able to host their annual Delta Mustang High School Invitational or any meet due to the condition of the track’s surface, which United States Track and Field officials deemed unsafe two years ago. For the past two seasons, Delta has hosted the invitational, a fundraiser that draws high school teams from throughout Northern California, at Stagg High School, which is less than two miles from Delta’s campus.

In 2008, Delta’s Mondo Super X track was replaced with the same Mondo SX system that debuted at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
