Pacific baseball struggles in 9-4 loss to visiting San Francisco

STOCKTON — Pacific’s James Arakawa and James Free each hit RBI-singles in the bottom of the ninth inning against San Francisco but it was much too little too late.

The Dons hitters took advantage of a brisk wind and Tigers pitchers, including junior right-hander Ryan Shreve fresh off his no-hitter six days earlier, to build a big lead and win their three-game series against Pacific with a 9-4 West Coast Conference victory in front of 256 fans Saturday afternoon at Klein Family Field.

It was clear early the no-hit magic from the WCC Pitcher of the Week and National Co-pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association wasn’t in the air as four of the first six batters Shreve faced singled to bring in three first inning runs.
