STOCKTON — Hayley Nunes realized that to be a better hitter, she needed a good push.
The sophomore infielder was already a solid player when she arrived at Delta two years ago from Tracy High School. But she has worked hard to become one of the offensive stars of the veteran-laden Mustangs, who begin the Northern California Super Regional against Diablo Valley at 2 p.m. today at Delta’s Bucky Layland Softball Complex.
Ohlone and Cosumnes River play at 4 p.m., and the double-elimination tournament continues through Sunday to determine which team advances to the state championships.
