Mustangs win with hit of a different kind

STOCKTON – Delta sophomore Joe Montes is fast. Almost too fast.

The Mustangs' right-handed batter started to make his move to avoid an inside pitch from American River College freshman Freddy May. But Montes wasn't quick enough, which was good news for Delta.

Montes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to score the winning run in Delta's 4-3 victory over the Beavers on Thursday at Nick Cecchetti Field.

Montes's teammates mobbed him and doused him with water at first base after he was plunked in the mid-section to score Jack Walsh.
