STOCKTON — It didn't take long for the Delta women's basketball team to find its groove.
Delta's swarming defense forced 38 turnovers and its offense responded with a season-high scoring output in a 104-48 Big 8 conference victory over Modesto on Tuesday at Joe Blanchard Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (23-6, 10-3 Big 8) made a blistering 16 of 33 3-point baskets (48.5 percent), including strings of five and four in a row to easily pull away from the out-manned Pirates (6-16, 1-12).
"We dropped into a half-court man defense and (Modesto) wasn't able to do a lot offensively," said Delta coach Gina Johnson, who saw her squad hold the Pirates to just six points in the final quarter.
