Manteca takes huge lead early, routs Sierra

MANTECA – Garren Genilla’s 77-yard scoop-and-score as time ran out capped Manteca’s dominating victory over intracity rival Sierra during a Valley Oak League game Friday at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Genilla’s run to the end zone ignited a team celebration around the 6-foot-4, 208-pound lineman, but the 50-7 victory was already well in hand before that score which extended Manteca’s winning streak to four games.

Jacob De Jesus scored two touchdowns, including a 23-yard pass from Ryan Ward, while Ward also connected on a 6-yard scoring strike to Jorge Cedeno. The Buffaloes (4-1 VOL, 6-3 overall) led 21-0 before Sierra’s Nick Stanley rushed 68-yards for a touchdown just prior to halftime.
