Two San Joaquin County girls wrestlers still have a chance to win a state title.
Alexa Garcia of Sierra and Mikayla Vega of Escalon advanced to the semifinals in their weight classes at the CIF State Wrestling Championships on Friday at Bakersfield. The semifinals, finals and place matches are today.
Garcia, at 160 pounds, scored three pinfalls on her way to a semifinal match up against Ariana Pereira of Newark Memorial. She pinned Belen Merino of San Pasqual, Vivian Frausto of Shadow Hills and Ehireme Ohens of Stockdale in a quarterfinal which lasted just 1:18.
Vega, at 111 pounds, advanced by default in the first round, then beat Camila Barranco of Aptos by pin in 30 seconds and Savannah Kiddoo of Ramona in 1:35.
