Local Roundup: Pacific men’s water polo tops No. 4 USC

STOCKTON – Perhaps nobody had a better view than Jon Barry of Luis Araya’s stunning helicopter spin-and-shoot goal that proved to be the game-winner Saturday as No. 3 Pacific defeated No. 4 USC in front of a ruckus crowd at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The standing-room-only crowd of 641 celebrated Pacific’s narrow 12-11 victory in perhaps a preview of what could transpire at the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship, scheduled for Dec. 7-8 at Pacific.

With the match tied a 11-11 with 3 minutes and 37 seconds remaining, Barry, the netminder for the Tigers, saw his teammate wind up to take the risky shot on goal.
