The defending state champion Delta College baseball team will open play in the CCCAA Northern California Regionals against No. 17 Monterey Peninsula in the first of a best-of-three series at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Nick Cecchetti Field.
The top-seeded Mustangs (33-7, 19-5 Big 8 Conference) clinched the conference title by beating Modesto 8-2 on Friday.
“We opened the season against (Monterey Peninsula),” Delta coach Reed Peters recalled. “We won, but Monterey Peninsula is a solid team. We have to come out ready to play against them, and they are very capable of beating anyone.”
