STOCKTON – Dressed from head to toe in Delta College swag, the state-bound women’s basketball team surrounded coach Gina Johnson after practice Tuesday to hear her announce team-leader Sankia Braxton was selected as a second-team junior college All-American.
Braxton is the second Delta player named for the award, following in the footsteps of All-American Necolia Simmons in 2007, but she hopes to lead her team to Delta’s first state championship this weekend in Ventura.
The Mustangs are scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. Friday against LA Trade Tech with a chance of reaching a Final Four contest on Saturday.
