Delta College baseball sweeps Monterey Peninsula in NorCal playoffs

STOCKTON – The letters “DC” on the Delta College players’ baseball uniforms don’t stand for “defending champions,” but the Mustangs are well on their way to defending their state title thanks to a two-game sweep of Monterey Peninsula on Saturday at Nick Cecchetti Field.

With its 12-1 victory over the Lobos, top-seeded Delta (35-7) advances to the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association’s Northern California regional next weekend. The Mustangs outscored the No. 17 Lobos (23-20) by a combined run total of 24-3 over the best-of-three series.

Starting pitcher Robert Gasser struck out 10 batters, walked three and allowed three hits and no runs over his six innings.
