STOCKTON – Vinny Bologna put on quite a power display Friday, and the Delta Mustangs needed every bit of it.
The sophomore left fielder hit two long home runs and garnered four RBI as the Mustangs baseball team outslugged Cosumnes River 11-7 at Delta’s Nick Cecchetti Field to sweep the best-of-three Northern California Super Regional series 2-0. Delta (37-7) advances to the Elite Eight, and its next opponent has yet to be determined.
The Mustangs had 16 hits and had a seven-run lead before the Hawks (25-20) rallied in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate before Delta finished it up.
