STOCKTON — Katrin Gotterba couldn’t bear to see her best friend struggle.
So Gotterba, an underclassman on the St. Mary’s girls volleyball team a few years ago, stopped firing service aces at Ripon Christian’s Andie Shelton.
The former Tri-City Athletic League Libero of the Year pulled back, to the chagrin of her coaches.
“I started feeling so bad. I starting laying off my serve,” said Gotterba, now a fourth-year starting libero for Pacific, who’s nearing the conclusion of her career. “I was trying to pop it in (slowly) so she could pass it perfectly.”
Gotterba and Shelton, inseparable since the third grade, are in the home stretch of their career together.
