Here's why Washington State's Robert Barber is not playing for the Cougars

Robert Barber's status with the Washington State football team remains in limbo as he awaits a potential stay from the Whitman County Superior Court for a University-mandated suspension stemming from a July 2016 fight in which he allegedly assaulted and concussed a fellow student.

Barber, a fifth-year senior defensive line starter, and his attorney filed the petition last week asking for a judicial review of the university's action and to stay Barber's suspension pending that judicial review. The stay would allow Barber to be immediately reinstated to the football team.

"Robert Barber belongs with our team," Washington State coach Mike Leach told ESPN.
