National Hockey League clubs that hoped for the best to start the season by U.S. Thanksgiving have come to the realization that they have little chance of making the playoffs and will spend time between now and the February 24th trade deadline determining what the better course of action is. Some teams hold on to players who will be unrestricted free agents in hopes of re-signing them at the risk of losing them and getting nothing in return, while others choose to trade them to contending clubs for young prospects and draft picks.
