Senators looking for forward depth from inside and out

The Ottawa Senators have dealt with the future during scouting meetings in Fort Lauderdale.

Now, they’ll take a look at their immediate needs.

While the initial work has been done for this June’s NHL entry draft, Ottawa GM Pierre Dorion and the club’s pro scouts are wrapping up their meetings this weekend with a focus on trying to make sure they know exactly who’s going to be available with the trade deadline set for March 1 at 3 p.m.

A league executive told Postmedia on Thursday afternoon only two teams have hung up the ‘For Sale’ sign — the Colorado Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes — while the New York Islanders are thinking about it, but nobody can predict what route GM Garth Snow will take as the NHL hits the mid-season mark.
