OTTAWA — Derick Brassard has gone under the knife.
And now, the Ottawa Senators centre has a long road to recovery ahead.
The Senators confirmed that Brassard, 29 — who tore the labrum in his right shoulder during the club’s series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference final — had a procedure to repair the damage Tuesday in Cleveland.
Acquired from the Rangers in a trade that sent Mika Zibanejad to New York last summer, Brassard finished the year with 14 goals and 39 points in 81 games in first season with Ottawa. He was used mostly in a second-line centre role and finished the playoffs with four goals and 11 points in 19 games.
