It was nine years ago. Mother’s Day, 2008. Tori’s phone rang with his grandmother delivering the devastating news — Norris Gurley, Tori’s father had died in a car accident in Las Vegas, pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m.

“It was probably the worst phone call I’ve gotten in my life,” said Gurley, who played for the Redblacks in Thursday night’s pre-season game against the Alouettes. “My life instantly changed. I told my brothers, ‘Look, Pop isn’t here anymore, but we still have to go out and carry ourselves a certain way.
