Ottawa Senators winger Chris Neil reaches career milestone

The significance of the moment wasn’t lost on Chris Neil on Saturday morning at the Nationwide Arena.

For the 950th time after the morning skate — in advance Saturday night’s contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets — the Senators winger cut off a perfectly good set of skate laces and started putting on a new set of laces just like he has before the other 949 games he’s suited up with Ottawa.

It’s an exercise Neil repeats before every game.

“So this is the 950th time,” Neil said with a toothy grin.

Selected by the Senators in the sixth round of the 1998 entry draft, Neil, 36, is proud of the fact all those games have been played in an Ottawa uniform.
