A little spice was added to an uneventful Senators training camp Friday when one top prospect was suspended by the team and another suffered an injury at practice.
Swedish defenceman Mikael Wikstrand left Ottawa for his home in Sweden Thursday night, hours before Matt Puempel went down during drills with an apparent left arm/shoulder/wrist problem at an on-ice workout
Wikstrand’s decision drew the ire of Senators GM Bryan Murray.
“He disappeared yesterday without telling us,” said Murray. “I guess he let (assistant GM) Randy (Lee) know when he was at the airport.”
Murray answered “of course” when asked if he would suspend Wikstand, who had expressed a desire to play for his team back home rather than the Binghamton Senators.
