The Senators were an awful defensive team in 2018-19. They were last place in the league in goals against per game (3.67), shots allowed per game (35.7), shot attempts allowed per game (65.7, via Natural Stat Trick), and 5v5 shot attempts allowed per game (53.9), not to mention they were also the worst team in terms of share of 5v5 shot attempts (Corsi, 44.9%), 5v5 unblocked shot attempts (Fenwick, 45.5%), and 5v5 shots on goal (45.3%). Any way you slice it, the Sens were depending on their goalies to be otherworldly if they were going to win games.
