News emerged today that Matt Puempel is the latest Senators player to be placed on waivers. This comes following Puempel having no points in 13 games this season. Puempel got a longer look than most would in his position, being a first-round pick who required waivers. Puempel also had 30 points in 34 AHL games last year, meaning he was due for a long look at the NHL level.
Puempel is the lone first-round pick (24th overall) remaining with the Sens’ organization from the much-heralded 2011 draft. Mika Zibanejad (6th) and Stefan Noesen (21st) have both been traded.
