Hamburglar’s season from hell comes to premature end

TAMPA - It has gone from bad to worse for Andrew “The Hamburglar” Hammond.

Trying to get his career back on track after being sent to the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton last month when goaltender Craig Anderson returned from his personal leave, Hammond suffered a tear in his right labrum, he will require surgery and his season is over.

Hammond, 29, who took the club on a remarkable 20-1-2 run to lead the Senators to the playoffs in 2015, complained of some pain playing 10 days ago with Binghamton and was sent for further testing.

“This surgery will keep (Hammond) out for the remainder of the season and our doctors are estimating that his rehabilitation will allow him to begin skating in approximately 12 weeks,” GM Pierre Dorion said Monday.
