Magic's Elfrid Payton has enhanced his floater

Elfrid Payton has an improved shot in his arsenal.

Payton enhanced his floater during the offseason, and he deployed it effectively in the Orlando Magic's last two preseason games, making a pair of floaters Friday against the Indiana Pacers and one Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks.

It could be a big weapon for him.

One of Payton's problems during his first two seasons was his tendency to have shots blocked. Opponents averaged 1.2 blocks per game on Payton's attempts last season, a byproduct of Payton forcing too many ill-advised shots at the rim.

A floater in the lane, away from the hoop, could eliminate a significant fraction of those blocks.
