Magic: Jonathan Isaac ACL tear unrelated to previous injury

Orlando Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said the ACL tear that Jonathan Isaac sustained Sunday was not related to his previous knee injury and he’s confident the team did not bring the third-year forward back too soon.

Weltman said Monday during a teleconference with reporters that initial testing on Isaac’s knee did not indicate any damage beyond the ACL tear. The team continues to compile data and will acquire a “more complete set of imaging.”

Isaac’s season appeared to be over when he sustained a serious injury to his left knee on Jan. 1. But he worked his way back, aided by the NBA season being suspended in March by the coronavirus pandemic, and returned for the team’s final scrimmage in the restart on July 27.
