Homeless shelter, displaced for Magic's entertainment complex, eyes Parramore land

One of Orlando's oldest homeless centers, which is relocating for the Orlando Magic's planned $100-million entertainment complex near the Amway Center, is now eyeing city-owned land in Parramore for its new home.

The Orlando Union Rescue Mission is working with city officials to purchase land at the corner of Anderson Street and Terry Avenue in Parramore, where the Mission hopes to build a new, larger facility for its men's shelter.

According to Mission officials, the planned new facility would house 150 men, up from the 120 beds at the Mission's current facility along Central Boulevard, a former hotel which the charity has occupied since the early 1960s.
