More than a year after his senior high school baseball season was unceremoniously canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sam Broderson has plenty to celebrate.
Broderson, a 2020 West Orange graduate and right-handed pitcher, recorded a memorable win on the mound June 12 while helping Wingate University upset Central Missouri 5-3 for its first NCAA Division II baseball national championship.
The freshman capped an impressive five-inning effort in relief by striking out the game’s final batter before turning toward the dugout and throwing his glove in elation at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.
