It was a school year that saw record-shattering performances, surprise state champions and excellence in every sports season.
But maybe most of all the 2020-21 school sports year will be remembered for the challenges that were overcome as the Florida High School Athletic Association and school districts across the state brought high school sports teams back to the playing fields after being sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
Those efforts to turn lights back on at stadiums and gymnasiums, even in the face of quarantines that wrecked schedules for some teams, helped open the door for another year of memorable achievements.
