Vancouver Whitecaps FC spoiled the 2020 Major League Soccer home debut for the LA Galaxy with a 1-0 victory Saturday night. The Whitecaps kept Galaxy forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez off the scoreboard in front of an over-capacity sellout crowd of 26,382 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
After managing the scoreless game for more than 70 minutes, Whitecaps defender Ali Adnan won a ball in the Vancouver attacking third. With a quick give-and-go play to teammate Ryan Raposo, Adnan took the ball to the end line with pace. He beat sliding Galaxy defender Nicholas DePuy to set up forward Tosaint Ricketts for the lone goal.
