Giovanni Reyna could soon be the next American to play in Germany’s Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund announced Wednesday that it had promoted Reyna to its first team after the 17-year-old had an impressive six months for the German side’s youth teams.
Reyna joined Dortmund in the summer of 2019 after the German side signed him away from New York City FC’s youth academy, where he had been a stud.
He’s been stellar in his time with Dortmund’s U-19 team, tallying eight goals and eight assists in 16 appearances.
“He presented himself well (at training camp) in Marbella, that’s why we want to put him on a much higher level at training,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said in a statement.
