UM basketball transfer Earl Timberlake finds landing spot

Miami Hurricanes freshman guard/forward Earl Timberlake has decided to transfer to Memphis, he announced in an Instagram post on Thursday morning.

Timberlake, once a five-star recruit and regarded as a potential 2021 NBA draft pick, was one of the top talents available in a college basketball offseason filled with player movement after he first entered the transfer portal shortly after UM’s season.

Ankle and shoulder injuries limited him to seven games with the Hurricanes as a freshman out of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland. He averaged 9.3 points, five rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

With the 6-foot-6 wing now set to play for Tigers coach Penny Hardaway next season, Miami will have transfers at Memphis, Louisville (Matt Cross), Arkansas (Chris Lykes), Ole Miss (Nysier Brooks) and Stony Brook (Elijah Olaniyi, who went back after transferring to UM from Stony Brook the previous offseason).
