UCF men’s basketball embraces NIL opportunities but focus remains on the team

UCF men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins knows a thing or two about taking advantage of opportunities.

He was a two-time All-American point guard at Duke University from 1985-86 and he would go on to win the Naismith Player of the Year award in his final season after averaging 20.2 points per game while leading the Blue Devils to the NCAA Finals.

It’s safe to assume Dawkins would have been able to benefit from his name, image and likeness during his college career if athletes had been able to profit from it at the time.

“I think I would have found a few ways to take advantage of that for sure,” Dawkins said with a laugh.
