Tyler Van Dyke starts at quarterback in place of injured D’Eriq King vs. Central Connecticut State

MIAMI GARDENS — With D’Eriq King not available, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke will make the first start of his collegiate career in the Miami Hurricanes’ Saturday game versus Central Connecticut State at Hard Rock Stadium.

Van Dyke, a second-year freshman, beat out true freshman Jake Garcia for the starting spot against the Blue Devils, but coach Manny Diaz said both freshman quarterbacks would get playing time on Saturday.

King, who started at quarterback in every Miami game entering Saturday since joining the program last season, wasn’t available for UM against Central Connecticut State after sustaining a right shoulder injury during UM’s first of the third quarter in last weekend’s loss to Michigan State.
