Today in Central Florida sports history: Alex Morgan celebrates a birthday

She told Sports Illustrated she was in elementary school when she wrote a letter to her mother that read, “Hi mommy, my name is Alex, and I am going to be a professional soccer player. I love you.”

Morgan has achieved that goal, scoring 107 goals while helping the U.S. women’s national team win two World Cups and an Olympic gold medal.

She was acquired by the Pride ahead of its debut season in 2016, scoring 18 goals during 54 appearances. Morgan’s Pride tenure has been hobbled by calls up to the national team and injuries, but she contributed to the club’s sole playoff appearance.
