Stetson will not play football during the 2020 season after the Pioneer League announced Friday it’s schools will not compete in the sport due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move shutters play for the Hatters in DeLand and the league’s eight other member schools: Butler, Davidson, Dayton, Drake, Marist, Morehead State, San Diego and Valparaiso.
“It wasn’t unexpected given the situation that is going on around the country and, obviously, a lot of other schools our size and other conferences that play at our same level had made that decision a little bit earlier,” Stetson football coach Roger Hughes told the Orlando Sentinel.
