St. Thomas Aquinas jumps out early to get past DeLand

DeLand held perennial power St. Thomas Aquinas of Fort Lauderdale to a field goal in the second half. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the damage had already been done by halftime.

St. Thomas put the ball in the hands of running back Anthony Hankerson early, and the 5-foot-8, 190-pounder scored three touchdowns and ran for nearly 100 yards before halftime as the Raiders used the early cushion to defeat DeLand 31-7.

“We were able to establish the run and get ourselves off to a very good start,” STA coach Roger Harriott said. “We still have some things we need to work on and I still feel like we’re behind the eight-ball a little bit on a few technical things, but we’ll improve as we go.
