The chaos of the NWSL Challenge Cup knockout round continued as Sky Blue FC earned a spot in the semifinals via a penalty kick win over the Washington Spirit.
Washington keeper Aubrey Bledsoe saved the third Sky Blue penalty kick taken by Domi Richardson, but the Spirit’s Samantha Staab sent the next shot over the crossbar to keep the teams even entering the decisive fifth kicks for each team.
The Spirit’s Bayley Feist took the final penalty kick, sending it wide right and straight into the gloves of Sheridan, who clinched the win for Sky Blue FC.
